The grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best. Therefore, it tends to become the best. It takes the form or character of the best, andwill receive the best.

Wallace D. Wattles

Neville Goddard wrote of feeling thankful to imply you already have what you want. This is the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Both Neville Goddard and Wallace D.Wattles wrote of the reverse possibilities of the law of cause and effect with Neville Goddard calling it- ‘the law of reversibility’ and Wallace D.Wattles naming it ‘the law of gratitude’. Wattles wrote that, ‘the law of gratitude is the natural principle that action and reaction are always equal and in opposite directions’.

The normal state of affairs is to feel grateful after we have received something we very much want. If action and reaction are equal, this would mean that as the action produces the reaction, so does the reaction produce the action. The feeling of being grateful before we have actually received what we are grateful for, produces the object of our gratitude. Action and reaction can also be described as cause and effect which are inextricably interwoven. Cause and effect, energy and matter, action and reaction are the same and interconvertible. The scripture, ‘What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall have them’ (Mark 11:24) is based upon a knowledge of the law of inverse transformation.

You imagine the feeling that your objectified desire would produce and the feeling produces the objectified desire. All transformations of force are reversible therefore, you should always assume the feeling of your fulfilled wish. Simply contemplate the joy that would be yours, were your object an accomplished fact and live in the feeling of the wish fulfilled.

Thankfulness + focus on the wish fulfilled = becoming the wish fulfilled

Opening + saturation = becoming

Falling asleep in the feeling of the wish fulfilled is particularly potent, as you take it into the subconscious mind. The subconscious is impressed with your present conception of self and reproduces it faithfully in objective reality. Always fall asleep feeling you have what you want. Feel thankfulness, joy and satisfaction and this will produce its material equivalent in your world.

In the scripture from the 4th chapter of Philippians, we are advised to focus our minds on things ‘of good report’. Wallace D. Wattles speaks of the grateful mind being continually focused on ‘the best’ and Neville Goddard writes that ‘the desire which realizes itself is always a desire upon which attention is exclusively concentrated.

This does not mean that we cannot use the imagination to imagine different desires into being but a concentrated focus on one thing, will endow it with more power and shut out any distractions, enabling us to live more fully in the feeling of the wish fulfilled. The more attention we give an idea, the more compelled the subconscious mind will be to bring it into being. The more attention we give our imaginary act, the more it will arise out of the depths of the subconscious and into material form, like the Potter forming his clay into new works. You steady the attention and increase its power by confining it.

Gratitude to God for providing us with our every need and desire, creates a powerful opening within us. We feel more connected to the Divine and we open up to receive our desire with the words ‘thank you’. This creates the feeling that we already have what we want which brings it into being. The focus of the mind on the imaginal act, creates a visual impression on the subconscious mind which it must express in sense-perceived reality. The grateful mind is grateful for everything and is a product of wisdom and understanding. Gratitude brings more of the good to us and this, combined with a focus on the fulfilment of our wish fulfilled, cannot help but bring our desire into being. We must train the mind to maintain focus on gratitude and joy throughout the day which in itself alone, is a happier way of life but also produces our potential. As always, we start from now, and never give up.
